12-20-12-28 Preview and Review

I will not be around next week, so I am going to go ahead and write about the fights for the next two weeks now. Last week was a good one for me:
Brian's pick Huerta I pick Huerta Winner Huerta
Brian's pick Avila I pick Salido Winner Salido
Huerta looked decent, Alicea looked bad. Salido looked very good. He totally destroyed Avila. So, that means I went 2-0, the Brian's went 1-1.
The next two weeks, we have nothing spectacular. Three cards, one on Versus tonight, one on Telefutura tomorrow, and the return of ESPN's Friday Night Fights on the 28th. In the Versus opener, we get Tye Fields vs. Chris Koval in a 10 round Heavyweight fight. Fields was born in Missoula, MT and fights out of Las Vegas. He is 39-1-0, 32 years old, and 6'9. In his last fight he won a knockout victory over knock-around Domonic Jenkins in August. The only names on his record are Bruce Seldon and Saul Montana and they were way past their prime when Fields beat them. He has 35 knockouts, and he has put a lot of cans on their cans. He is rated 66th on the All-Time Heavyweight list and 15th on the active list. Koval fights out of Youngstown, OH. He is 24-3-0 and is 25 years old. He has 18 KOs in his 35 wins, but he has been KO'd twice. In his last fight he won a split decision in a six rounder over the very iffy Chad Van Sickle in August. I have never seen him fight, though he has fought a decent name here or there, notably Shannon Briggs, the best name on either of these records and Alexander Dimitrenko. Of course, he lost to both of those guys. Koval is ranked 274th on the All-Time Heavyweight list and 87th on the Active list. This is a record compiler compiling his record against a decent kid. Fields should have no trouble getting win number 40. The Brian's pick Fields 970.8 over Koval 775.2. I also pick Fields.
The main event on Versus should be a good one Joshua Clottey vs. Shamone Alvarez in a 12 round Welterweight fight. Clottey was born in Accra, Ghana and fights out of The Bronx. He is 32-2-0 and 30 years old. In his last fight, he won a unanimous decision over a decent Felix Flores in August. I have seen him fight three times and, though he is not spectacular, I like him. He keeps coming, he throws some good punches and he takes a good punch. He gave Antonio Margarito all he wanted last December in a Welterweight title fight and beat Diego Corrales in April. His other loss came to Carlos Baldomir and he has also beaten Marlon Thomas. He is currently rated 24th in the All-Time Light Middleweight ratings and 11th in the Active ratings. Alvarez was born in and fights out of Atlantic City. He is 19-0-0 and 30 years old. In his last fight, he won a unanimous decision over a decent Germaine Sanders in August. I have seen him fight twice, though he does not stand out. Besides Sanders, the only other decent guy on his record is Jose Luis Cruz, whom he also beat. He is rated 109th on the All-Time Welterweight list and 21st on the Active list. Neither one of these guys has a huge punch, so this fight should go the distance. Clottey looks to be the better guy. He has fought far better opposition and though Alvarez is 19-0, the record of an up and comer, he is 30 years old, the age of a late start-protected guy. I guess it is conceivable that Clottey will submit to the ravages of time, but... The Brian's pick Clottey 942.1 over Alvarez 855.0. I pick Clottey to stave off father time a bit longer.
On Telefutura on Friday, we start with another 10 round Heavyweight fight, David Rodriguez vs. Marcus McGee. Rodriguez fights out of El Paso. He is 26-0-0 with 25 KOs and 30 years old. His last fight was in June, a 2nd round KO over undefeated noname Rick Dyer. I have never seen him fight and he has never fought anybody of note. He is 186th on the All-Time Heavyweight list and 47th on the Active list. McGee fights out of Tuscaloosa, AL. He is 19-14-0 and 36 years old. In his last fight, in September, he got knocked out by a kid fighting his fourth pro fight. I have never seen him fight but he has fought some names, Jameel McCline, Sultan Ibragimov, Michael Grant, Roman Greenburg, Malik Scott. But, he lost to all of them. Chances are, he might be looking for a soft spot in the ring to lay down in. Despite all of that, he will be the second best guy Rodriguez has fought. He is currently rated 378th in the All-Time Heavyweight ratings and 149th in the Active list. The Brian's put this at Rodriguez 857.6 over McGee 564.4. No way Rodriguez loses.
In the Telefutura Main Event, we get Urbano Antillon vs. Adrian Valdez in a 10 round Lightweight fight. Antillon was born in Namiquipa, Mexico and fights out of Maywood, CA. He is 20-0-0 and 25 years old. In his last fight, he KO'd a fairly decent Wilson Alcorro in 2 rounds. I have seen him fight twice, though not memorably. He has fought some decent folk, in addition to Alcorro, he beat Fernando Trejo and Ivan Valle. He is currently ranked 89 in the All-Time Lightweight ratings and 23rd in the Active ratings. Valdez fights out of Ciudad Juarez. He is 18-5-3 and 27 years old. His last fight was a 4th round TKO over young and bad Julio Cesar Hernandez. I have never seen him fight, but he has some decent names on his slate, locing to Cesar Soto, Robert Guerrero, Ben Dunne, and Clarence Vinson, but beating Cesar Soto and Hector Javier Marquez. He is currently rated 146th on the All-Time Lightweight ratings and 63rd on the Active ratings. This should be a better fight than the first. Valdez has fought some good names, beating some. Antillon has never lost and is on a three fight KO run. Valdez is a little better than recent competition. The Brian's say Antillon 840.7 over Valdez 704.7. I can't find any reason not to pick Antillon.
That's it for this week. But next week, we see the return of Friday Night Fights on ESPN2. In the opening bout, we have Mark Woolnough vs. Darrell Woods in an 8 round Super Middleweight fight. Woolnough (red pants) was born and fights out of Qualicum Beach, Canada. He is 16-5-1 and 26 years old. His last fight was a unanimous decision over noname Kareem Chartrand in October. I have never seen him fight. He has beaten Jose Spearman and Giovanni Alvarez, but has lost to Carl Froch and Otis Grant. He is currently rated 143rd on the All-Time Super Middleweight list and 100th on the Active list. Woods was born and fights out of St. Petersburg, FL. He is 26-11-0 and 40 years old. His last fight was a 1 round destruction by Allan Green. I have seen his last two fights. In the fight before the Green fight, he also got knocked down, but used his veteran wiles to take a surprise decision off Samuel Miller. He is long, lean, and old. He is not quick or strong, but he is a veteran and knows how to stay alive and steal some rounds. In addition to Green and Miller, He beat Emmett Linton and Kenny Ellis, and lost to Marlon Thomas, Kenny Ellis, and Joachim Alcine. Lots of decent names on the resume. He is currently rated 124th on the All-Time list and 81st on the Active list. The Brian's put this at Woods 721.9 over Woolnough 694.3. Woolnough is not a power guy, with only 5 KOs. I think he is a good boxer and doesn't think he can do stuff he can't, like KO Woods. So, I think he will do better than Miller. I also think the severe beating handed out by Green is the beginning of the end for Woods. I pick Woolnough.
The main event is a 10 round Heavyweight fight between Dominick Guinn and Robert Hawkins. Guinn was born in Hot Springs and fights out of Houston. He is 28-5-1 and 32 years old. His last fight he lost a unanimous decision to Eddie Chambers in May. I have seen him fight 10 times, including 8 of his last 9. I think he is a guy far down on the slide. He always seems like he is not into the fight. He appears unmotivated, just getting along. He holds. He is not a big puncher. But, he can beat losers. He just can't beat anybody decent these days. He has lots of names on his roster, Chambers, Tony Thompson, Audley Harrison, Jame Toney, Serguei Lyakhovich, Monte Barrett, Michael Grant, Duncan Dokiwari. Of those, the guys he beat, Harrison, Grant, Dokiwari, turned out to be at the end. He hasn't beaten anybody on the rise. He is currently ranked 164 on the All-Time list and 64th on the Active ratings. Hawkins fights out of Philly. He is 22-10-0 and 37 years old. His last fight was a KO loss to Vladimir Virchis in November. I have seen him fight once and he did not look like he was any good. He also has some names on his list, Virchis, Jean Francois Bergeron, David Tua, Samuel Peter, Chambers, and Oleg Maskaev all beat him, though he did come up with a win against Terry Smith. He is rated 281st on the All-Time Heavyweight list and 118 on the Active list. The Brian's put this at Guinn 822.0 over Hawkins 686.2. This looks to me like a guy trying to get back on track by beating a guy with a decent record, with some good names, who isn't any good. Hawkins has no power, so he is not a knockout threat. The only question is whether Guinn is completely shot or if, in the last few months, he has found a little bit more in the well. Hopefully ESPN would not be bringing him back if he was done. I'll take ESPN, I'll take Guinn.
In Summary, the Brian's pick:
Fields----------I pick Fields
Clottey---------I pick Clottey
Rodriguez------I pick Rodriguez
Antillon--------I pick Antillon
Woods---------I pick Woolnough
Guinn----------I pick Guinn
Happy Holidays, I'll see you next year.

12-14 Preview and Review

Well, we have finally seen the end of the incredible excitement that closed out the year. And we ended it with a great fight. Let's see how they went:
Brian's pick Martinez I pick Martinez Winner Martinez
Brian's pick Foreman I pick Foreman Winner Foreman
Brian's pick Murray I pick Murray Winner Murray
Brian's pick McKart I pick McKart Winner Ornelas
Brian's pick Cherry I pick Cherry Winner Cherry
Brian's pick Lacy I pick Lacy Winner Lacy
Brian's pick Ponce de Leon I pick Ponce de Leon Winner Ponce de Leon
Brian's pick Mayweather, Jr. I pick Hatton Winner Mayweather, Jr.
Martinez thumped a skinny and no good Jordan. The Foreman Tsurkan fight was far from exciting, Foreman is nothing but a boxer, Tsurkan is a straight ahead plodder. Murray did not look great but got the win. Ornelas got knocked down in the first and second round, then knocked McKart down in the 4th and 5th making their fight the most exciting of the undercard matches. Cherry looked good in the 6th, taking out Ferguson, Lacy and Ponce de Leon struggled but won. Mayweather was remarkable. Hatton gave him a great run, but he just didn't have enough. Mayweather is definitely an All-Timer. So, I went 6-2, the Brian's went 7-1.
This week, we have a bit of a lull, with only the Telefutura card on the dockett. In the cofeature, we get Miguel Angel Huerta vs. Daniel Alicea in a 10 round Lightweight bout. Huerta was born in Mexico City and fights out of West Covina, CA. He is 25-8-1 and 29 years old. In his last fight, at the end of August, he won a unanimous decision over Efren Hinojosa. I have seen him fight twice unremarkably. He has fought some decent competition. The Hinojosa fight was an upset. He lost to Almazbek Raiymkulov (Kid Diamond), Julio Diaz, and Victoriano Sosa, but he beat Rolando Reyes and Allan Vester. Essentially he has beaten most of the folks that are suspect and lost to the guys that are actual quality. He is rated 117th on the All-Time Lightweight ratings and 39th on the Active ratings. Alicea was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico and fights out of Camden, NJ. He is 35 years old and 30-6-2. He is coming off a 16 month layoff after he got knocked out in the 12th by Edner Cherry in August of 06. That fight was the only time I have seen him fight. He gave Cherry some trouble, but couldn't sustain the effort all the way to the end. He has fought some good opposition, in addition to Cherry, he lost to Naseem Hamed, Nate Campbell, Acelino Freitas, and Lamar Murphy and beat Brian Adams. That's quite a list of top notch opposition, but he may be on the downside, especially after that last fight. He is rated 112th on the All-Time Lightweight list and he would be 46th on the Active list were he active. This is a guy trying to get back in the game after taking some time off following a devastating defeat against a guy looking to capitalize on a decent upset by beating another decent name guy. The Brian's take Huerta 780.9 over Alicea 766.69. I think Alicea may have been better at one time, but after the long layoff, I think Huerta will be able to take him out.
The main event features Orlando Salido vs. Hector Julio Avila in a 12 round Featherweight bout. Salido was born and fights out of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico. He is 28-9-2 and 27 years old. In his last fight he won a unanimous decision over a highly mediocre to worse Marty Robbins. This after he was stripped of the IBF Featherweight title due to a positive steroid test after his defeat of Robert Guerrero in 2006. I have seen him fight a couple of times unmemorably. He has fought some decent folk, beating Cesar Soto, Fred Neal, Carlos Gerena, and Lamont Pearson and losing to Juan Manuel Marquez, Alejandro Gonzalez, and Ivan Valle. Highs and lows, and one might wonder how the steroids affected his prediscovery and postdiscovery efforts. He is rated 77th on the All-Time Featherweight list and 18th on the Active list. Avila (on right, with Joan Guzman and Alexander Zapata) was born and fights out of La Romana, Dominican Republic. He is 41-3-0 and 35 years old. He fought in the 1992 Olympics for the Dominican Republic. He is a virtual unknown here in the US with almost all of his fights in the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, or Argentina. I have never seen him fight and he has never really fought anyone of note. He is rated 16th in the All-Time Super Bantamweight ratings and 13th in the Active ratings. This is a guy coming to the US to maybe start a new pohase of his career near the end against a guy trying to regain credibility and get back in the title picture by beating a big record. The Brian's put this at Avila 869.7 over Salido 866.5. I think Salido will win this, though, as Avila looks old and untestedSo, Brian's pick:
Huerta---------I pick Huerta
Avila-----------I pick Salido

December 6-8 Preview and Review

Some exciting fights last week, if not close ones:
Brian's-Campas, Me-Campas, Winner-Campas
Brian's-Hernandez, Me-Hernandez, Winner-No Contest (but Hernandez looked terrible)
Brian's-Angulo, Me-Angulo, Winner-Angulo
Brian's-Kirkland, Me-Kirkland, Winner-Kirkland
Brian's-Maldonado, Me-Donaire, Winner-Donaire
Brian's-Tarver, Me-Tarver, Winner-Tarver
Brian's-Forrest, Me-Forrest, Winner-Forrest

The Campas fight ended in a knockout, Vela looked terrible. Campas also looked slow, but he did enough body punching to get rid of Vela. Angulo made short work of Ter-Meliksetian, becoming only the second guy to knock him down and out. The Kirkland Conyers fight was great, if short. Conyers went down, got up and put Kirkland down, then got knocked out. What a fight. Donaire looked get getting rid of a game Maldonado, Tarver and Forrest also both won easily. The Brian's went 5-1 and I went 6-0.
Lots of fights this weekend, building to a real landmark bout on Saturday. I am stoked! We start on Thursday night with a Versus card. The co-feature is a 10 round Light Middleweight bout with Sergio Gabriel Martinez and Russell Jordan. Martinez was born in Quilmes, Argentina and fights out of Madrid. He is 40-1-1 and 32 years old. He is pretty much unknown here in the US. His last fight, in October, he beat an awful Pavel Florin Madalin by retirement in the 4th out of 6. I have never seen him fight and he has only fought two fighters of note, losing seven years ago to a young Antonio Margarito and beating a good if not great Saul Roman in April in a title eliminator. He is ranked 6th in the Active Light Middleweight rankings and 16th in the All-Time ratings. Jordan fights out of Rochester, NY. He is 14-4-0 and is 25. His last fight he won a unanimous decision over noname Alphonso Williams at the beginning of November. I have seen him fight a couple of times, but not memorably. He lost to James Kirkland, Oscar Diaz, and Allen Conyers and he has never beaten anybody of note. He is ranked 69th in the Active Light Middleweight rankings and 128th in the All-Time ratings. This is a guy trying to get some notice in the US and attempting it by beating up on a decent-but-not-good guy. The Brian's take Martinez 968.3 over Jordan 705.2. I'll take Martinez as well.
The main event on Versus features Andrey Tsurkan vs. Yuri Foreman in a 10 round Light Middleweight bout. Tsurkan was born in Lugansk, Ukraine and fights out of the Bronx. He is 25-2-0 and 30 years old. He has won his last four fights by knockout, including his last against a journeyman Sammy Sparkman in April. I have seen him fight twice during that span, but nothing stands out a bout him. He beat Hector Camacho, Jr., but he lost to Kuvanych Toygonbayev. Those are the best two names on his record. He is ranked 65th in the All-Time Light Middleweight rankings and 29th in the active ratings. Foreman was born in Gomel, Belarus and fights out of Brooklyn. He is 23-0-0 and 27 years old. He won a split decision over a good Anthony Thompson in June. I saw that fight, but nothing stands out about it. Other than Thompson the only name on his record is Donnie McCrary, whom he also beat. He is ranked 136th in the All-Time Middleweight rankings and 16 in the Active ratings. Essentially we have two Eastern European guys, trying to increase their profiles. Both on the way up, but with fairly low ceilings, I don't see either one of these guys winning a title. The Brian's pick Foreman 888.1 over Tsurkan 825.0. I will also take Foreman.
Now we move to Friday and the Telefutura card. We start that with John Murray vs. Miguel Angel Munguia in a 10 round Lightweight bout. Murray was born and fights out of Manchester, England. He is 22-0-0 and 22 years old. He has won his last three by knockout, including one against an unknown Dean Hickman in early November. I have never seen him fight and he hasn't fought anybody of note. He is ranked 100th in the All-Time Lightweight rankings and 29 in the Active ratings. Munguia was born and fights out of Mexico City. He is 16-9-1 and 25 years old. In his last fight, he upset Jose Diaz with a unanimous decision in early November. He has fought and lost to Jorge Lacierva, Jason Litzau, and Vicente Escobedo before beating Diaz. I saw the Diaz fight but it was more about Diaz looking bad than Munguia looking good. He is ranked 83rd in the All-Time Featherweight rankings and 72nd in the active ratings. This looks like a guy coming over to capitalize on the Ricky Hatton fan base fighting a guy he can look good against and go back home with his record intact and a little more coin in his pocket. The Brian's put this at Murray 816.9 over Munguia 554.3. I see no reason to disagree, Murray big.
In the main event we have Bronco McKart vs. Enrique Ornelas in a 12 round Middleweight rematch. McKart was born and fights out of Monroe, MI. He is 51-7-0 and 36 years old. In his last fight he won a split decision over Ornelas in August. He has been around for a long time and held the Light Middleweight belt for a time before he lost it to Winky Wright. I have seen him fight 3 times, losing to Travis Simms and Kelly Pavlik in addition to the first Ornelas fight. He is more of a strong tough plugger than an accomplished boxer. He keeps coming, takes out opposition he is better than, but doesn't have the extra gear to get out the better fighters. In addition to those mentioned, he lost to Verno Phillips, Kenny Ellis, and Winky Wright two more times. He is ranked 80th on the All-Time Middleweight rankings and 10th in the Active rankings. Ornelas was born in Jesus Del Monte, Mexico and fights out of La Habra, CA. He is 25-4-0 and 27 years old. He also has not fought since losing the split decision to McKart in August. I have seen him fight three times and he is also unspectacular, though, being younger, has a bit more potential for improvement than McKart. The only other name in the ballpark with McKart that he has fought was Sam Soliman, also a loss. He is ranked 175 in the All-Time ratings and 31st in the Active ratings. This is clearly one guy looking for revenge from a fight he thought he should have won over a guy he thought was washed up and the other guy still clinging to being decent. The Brian's have McKart 922.9 over Ornelas 800.0. I think they're right, McKart in another close one.
Now on to Saturday, a three fight undercard starting with Edner Cherry vs. Wes Ferguson in a 10 round Lightweight rematch. Cherry was born in Nassau, The Bahamas and fights out of Wauchula, FL. he is 22-5-2 and 25 years old. In his last fight, he won a unanimous decision over Ferguson, in June. I have seen him fight five times. He still seems a bit raw, but he is a good puncher and keeps coming forward. In addition to Ferguson, he beat Monty Meza Clay, Daniel Alicea, and Jaime Rangel and lost to Ricky Quiles, Jose Armando Santa Cruz, and Paul Malignaggi. He is ranked 31st in the Active Lightweight ratings and 102nd in the All-Time ratings. Ferguson was born in Flint, MI and fights out of Las Vegas. He is 17-2-1 and 22 years old. His last fight was a quick TKO of journeyman Sammy Ventura in September. I have only seen him fight once and he was not spectacular. Cherry is the best guy he has fought, though he also fought and beat Josesito Lopez and Silverio Ortiz. He is ranked 51st in the Active Lightweight rankings and 130th in the All-Time ratings. Again, this is a guy trying to get revenge against somebody he thought he should have beaten. In this case, however, I think Cherry totally outclassed him and I expect the same thing again. The Brian's take Cherry 813.8 over Ferguson 753.7 and I will also take Cherry.
Fight number two features Jeff Lacy vs. Peter Manfredo in a 10 round Super Middleweight bout. Lacy was born and fights out of St. Petersburg, FL. He is 22-1-0 and 30 years old. His last fight was over a year ago, winning a majority decision over a suspect Vitali Tsypko. His fight before that was his only loss, a total destruction by Joe Calzaghe in March of 06, 21 months ago. He fought in the 1996 Olympic Trials and the 2000 Olympics. I have seen him fight 7 times. Prior to the Calzaghe fight, he looked like a world beater. Very strong, heavy hands, an action fighter, good speed. But Calzaghe totally dominated him and I think his confidence took a hit. He did not look anywhere near as good against Tsypko. He has also been hurt, so maybe now, healthy that confidence will be back. He has held a Super Middleweight bout in has career and he has fought some good opponenets, Scott Pemberton, Robin Reid, Rubin WIlliams, Omar Sheika, Syd Vanderpool, and James Crawford to name a few. He is ranked 12 in the All-Time Super Middleweight ratings and 5th in the Active ratings. Manfredo was born in Providence, RI and fights out of Pawtucket, RI. He is 28-4-0 and 27 years old. He is probably best known as runner-up in the first season of The Contender. His last fight was a unanimous decision over David Banks in June. I have seen him fight 11 times. He is a good puncher, a decent boxer, a pretty good fighter, but he is still not a great. He has fought lots of Contender types, Sergio Mora beat him twice, he split with Alfonso Gomez, he beat Anthony Bonsante. He has also beaten some decent guys, Scott Pemberton, Joe Spina, Sherwin Davis. He also got into the ring with Joe Calzaghe way before he was ready and got torn up in a fight he had no shot in (but was still stopped early). He is ranked 37 in the All-Time Super Middleweight ratings and 22nd in the Active ratings. Once again, Peter Manfredo looks to have bitten off a bit more than he can chew, fighting a top notch competitor before he is ready. But, Lacy may still be off his game, in which case, Manfredo might pull off the upset. The Brian's put it at Lacy 950.1 over Manfredo 884.5. I don't think Lacy is all the way back, but I think he is back enough. I take Lacy.
The last prelim will be Daniel Ponce De Leon vs. Eduardo Escobedo in a 12 round fight for Ponce De Leon's Super Bantamweight title. Ponce de Leon was born in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico and fights out of Huntington Park, CA. His last fight was a 5-round KO of a good Reynaldo Lopez in a non title fight in September. He has won 7 of his last 9 by knockout. He fought for Mexico in the 2000 Olympics. I have seen him fight 8 times and he is a big puncher and a decent boxer. His real strength is his power. He has fought some good folks, Lopez, Rey Bautista, Gerry Penalosa, Sod Looknongyangtoy twice, Gerson Guerrero, Emmanuel Lucero, to name a few of his recent conquests. He is rated 3rd All-Time in the Featherweight ratings and number 1 in the Active ratings. He is also 23rd in the Active Lb. 4 Lb. ratings. Escobedo was born in Mexico City and fights out of Jarrell, TX. He is 20-2-0 and 23 years old. His last fight was a 6 round TKO over a good Jose Francisco Mendoza. I have seen him fight twice and he is also a big puncher, though he has not fought the quality of opposition that Ponce de Leon has fought. In fact, Mendoza is the only decent guy on his record. He is currently ranked 58th in the All-Time Featherweight ratings and 22nd in the Active ratings. This is two power punchers coming after each other. It should be an exciting fight and a short one. The Brian's take Ponce De Leon 1031.7 over Escobedo 802.0. I agree, Ponce de Leon ends it early.
Now the Main Event: Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. Ricky Hatton in a 12 round Welterweight title bout. Mayweather was born in Grand Rapids, MI and fights out of Las Vegas. He is 38-0-0 and 30 years old. In his last fight he won a split decision over Oscar De La Hoya in May. He won a bronze medal in the 1996 Olympics. He has held a title at Light Middleweight, Welterweight, Light Welterweight, Lightweight, and Super Featherweight. I have seen him fight 10 times, including his last eight. He is an all-time great. He has great defense, often electing to sit in close without tying up, dodging and counterpunching. He has very good control of the ring and he showed good power at the lower weight classes but hasn't shown a ton at Welter or above. He still packs a wallop, though. He has fought the cream of the crop, De La Hoya, Carlos Baldomir, Zab Judah, Sharmba Mitchell, Jose Luis Castillo, Diego Corrales, Genaro Hernandez, and many more. He is currently ranked number 1 in the All-Time and Active Light Middleweight rankings and he is currently Pound for Pound Number 1 and 24th All-Time Pound for Pound. Ricky Hatton was born in Stockport, England and fights out of Machester. He is 43-0-0 and 29 years old. His last fight was a brutal knockout of Jose Luis Castillo in June. I have seen him fight 5 times. He is an all pressure fighter, always coming forward and throwing tremendous body shots. He usually comes in gets off a couple of punches and then ties up. He seems to have boundless energy and a very strong punch, especially to the body. He is also a top shelf talent. He has held the Welter and Light Welterweight titles. He has fought plenty of quality opposition, but not quite the star studded roster of Mayweather. Castillo, Luis Collazo, Carlos Maussa, Kostya Tszyu, Dennis Pedersen, to name a few, have all fallen to his mighty blows. He is currently ranked 4th All-Time in the Light Welterweight ratings and number 1 in the Active ratings. He is also 4th in the Active Pound for Pound ratings. This should be a great fight. Hatton will come forward and look to batter Mayweather's body to prevent him from going anywhere. Mayweather will look to counter and avoid Hatton's biggest shots. I think Mayweather will get pushed to the limit but Hatton hasn't been as good at Welterweight as he was at the lighter weights. The Brian's say Mayweather 1184.4 over Hatton 1132.2. I am gonna go out on a limb and take Hatton in the upset.
So, in review, the Brian's pick
Martinez---------------I pick Martinez
Foreman---------------I pick Foreman
Murray----------------I pick Murray
McKart----------------I pick McKart
Cherry-----------------I pick Cherry
Lacy-------------------I pick Lacy
Ponce de Leon----------I pick Ponce de Leon
Mayweather, Jr.--------I pick Hatton
Should be a great Saturday card, check it out.
